This triple set of compilations has been produced as part of the Failed States//Creative Resistances project in 2023. The track selection was decided by a local curatorial group in each place: Belfast in the north of Ireland; Banda Aceh in Indonesia; and Prishtina and Prizren in Kosovo.
The project opens space for these punk communities in diverse parts of the world to express a collective identity of their respective scenes and for you to hear it, feel it, and begin to understand it. It also brings these three places into dialogue with each other. We're short-circuiting the centralised flows of neo-colonial culture. Things looks different from the margins, and by putting these peripheral punks in direct contact we are reshaping our understanding of global punk'.
The project's Principal Investigator is Dr Jim Donaghey, with Co-Investigator Dr Robert Porter, based at the School of Communication and Media, Ulster University, Coleraine. The project, and production of this set of compilations, has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK) (project reference AH/T007834/1).
The initial pressing run is limited to 300 copies (produced by Sonic Wax Pressing in Wigston Magna, England). There is a two-year embargo on digital versions of these compilations to allow this analogue artefact some space to be disseminated.
